Government

The City of Renville is what is known as a home rule charter city, deriving all of its power from a charter that was first drafted in 1905. The Renville City Charter establishes the mayor-council form of government and defines the specific powers of elected officials and appointed staff.

Renville’s governing body consists of six members. Five City Council members are elected at-large and serve four year terms. The mayor is elected at-large and presides over City Council meetings but does not vote except in case of a tie.
